Yoga Tips At Home. The penetration of our mind is our goal, but in the beginning, to set things in motion, there is no substitute for sweat.

– B.K.S. Iyengar

Yoga is a great way to keep your body fit and your mind calm. It makes a lot of sense to make yoga a part of your daily life. But that is easier said than done, right? In this article, you will learn Yoga Tips At Home.

Most of us know how good yoga is, yet there are things that can keep us away from practicing this ancient form of working out.

It might be a total bummer if you are a college-goer who is tight on a budget or a homemaker who can’t spare time to go for yoga classes. But what if I tell you that you can still practice yoga at home?

Ashtanga Guru Pattabhi Jois’ most famous quote is “Practice and all is coming”. doing yoga practice at home.

With these words, I believe he means that by consistently opening the body and mind through yoga, truth reveals itself to you in time, and with truth comes a deep peace.

For many of us, a regular yoga practice may be a difficult thing to establish. Here are some tips to help you get started.

Tips To Learn Yoga At Home

Here are a few tips you need to know how to learn yoga at home.

1. Decide why you want to do yoga

We may decide to do yoga for many different reasons. You may get into it to extend your religious practice, for spiritual growth, or simply to maintain good health.

Each reason implies different practices and knowledge, so it is important to know what exactly your reasons are.

2. Yoga Tips At Home “Prepare”

The first thing you need to do is read about yoga, research about the different asanas, and their benefits and styles. Read the guidelines and check out the pictures to learn the correct postures.

Get your comfy yoga clothes and a non-slipping, comfortable yoga mat. Try to practice yoga in the open air. Ensure not to eat anything 4 hours before doing yoga. It is best to practice yoga in the morning.

3. Create a comfortable spot for your yoga practice

If you have an extra room that you can devote to your yoga, great! Having your yoga mat unrolled and out all the time is certainly inviting.

Most of us, however, have to be more flexible and create a space when we want to practice. Try and find a spot where it’s peaceful and quiet, with as much space around you as possible. An empty piece of wall can be handy too since the wall is a great prop. If you like, it can be nice and even helpful to create some atmosphere with a candle or an incense stick.

Things like candles and incense are just extras, and by no means necessary to practice yoga. You can do yoga anywhere as long as you have enough space around you without the risk of bumping into tables, chairs, etc.

I’ve practiced in the living room with my husband there, having his breakfast and reading the paper, even commenting now and then. Not ideal, but I still got my practice in, which is the most important message of this article.

So be creative and get on your mat no matter what! Create the best space you can and enjoy your practice!

4. Get your yoga accessories

All you really need is a yoga mat, preferably non-slip. The yoga mat market is huge but it’s worth paying a little more for a good quality mat that suits your needs and will last a long time.

Blocks are a great addition but they can be replaced with books and other household things. A bolster is also nice to have, but for years I used a stack of pillows and blankets instead.

Accessories or even a yoga mat are by no means a prerequisite to practice…Just be creative!

Accessories and even a yoga mat are by no means a prerequisite to practice: I have been in places where there was no yoga mat, and I found a piece of carpet to practice on. I’ve even practiced on beds in hotel rooms where there was no space to roll out a mat. Just be creative… no excuses 🙂

5. Identify A Comfortable Space

Yoga calls for a space that is well lit and properly ventilated. It helps if the setting is serene as maximum benefits from yoga can be reaped when performed in a soothing environment.

Add candles to light up your room, in case the room is not sufficiently lit. Ensure that there are no sharp objects or furniture around you, as they could cause injuries when stretching during the asanas.

6. Yoga Tips At Home Stay safe, prevent injury

This is one tip with no shortcuts. Always watch your boundaries and especially be mindful of your body’s vulnerable areas. Particularly vulnerable areas are knees, hips, spine, and neck. If you feel any painful sensations, adjust, soften, come out of the pose if you need to. Don’t force or push.

Warm-up your body properly before attempting more advanced poses, and keep checking in if it feels okay to be in a pose. Be especially mindful during transitions between poses or when moving in or out of poses – these are moments of a potential risk of injury because we tend to pay less attention to our alignment.

7. Get advice from an experienced yoga teacher

Some of us don’t feel like we can start practicing yoga on our own, and go to studios to take yoga classes. Others try to establish a home practice and try to start doing yoga on their own.

Both options are quite viable, but getting proper advice at the beginning will give you a good understanding of where to start.

A teacher can give you advice on which poses to do and how often, based on your current health and body structure. Learn Yoga Tips At Home.

8. Choose your yoga style/routine

What are you going to do when you are on your mat? The first question to ask is….. “What do my body and mind need?”

Something active like Vinyasa Flow, to get the juices flowing or something more soft and restorative, to quiet your body and mind? The more you do yoga, the more you learn the effects of different practices and the more you learn to recognize what it is your body and mind need at different times.

If you pick an online class, don’t get stuck in reading too many class descriptions. The nature of the mind is to look for the perfect class to solve everything. That class doesn’t exist; you have to make it yourself.

The way you make the class perfect for you is through practicing with full awareness, with as little resistance as possible. If there is a part you don’t like, breathe through it and observe your reactions.

Remember that how you react on the mat seeps through in how you react in daily life. In daily life, you will also come across situations you don’t like and choose not to change or are unable to change. Remember Pattabhi Jois’ words – “Do your practice and all is coming”.

Start your practice with very basic yoga postures if you are a complete beginner. Like, start with basic seated postures, such as Sukhasana, Vajrasana, and stretches like Balasana and Pawanmuktasana.

Shiva Rea: She is one of my favorite yoginis and I totally love her Yogini and Shakti DVDs. Her beginner’s series is inspiring and motivating. She pushes your limits but knows where to stop.

An amazing teacher, she tells you exactly how to align your body and breath in her soothing voice. Shiva has something for every level of yogi. I’m sure you’ll fall in love with her like me.

Rodney Yee: Rodney Yee will leave you awe-struck. He is an excellent teacher and has many videos for beginners. His videos are very calming and he pays attention to every minute thing.
